Why Are Cellular Camera Photos Not Showing?

Sometimes, photos are automatically filtered after being uploaded if they are cellular camera thumbnails. Here's why and how to find them.

If you uploaded cell camera thumbnails instead of the original photos from an SD card, they were probably filtered within DeerLab. Most cell camera companies remove the embedded timestamp when resizing and editing the photos. We need this embedded timestamp to pull in accurate weather and organize your photos.

To view the filtered photos, go to Photos > Filter Photos and select "Incomplete (Time Stamp Missing)," as shown below.

To avoid this in the future, you can use the original photos from your SD cards or photos from your computer that have not been edited.

Frequently Asked Questions

My photos have timestamps on the photo and they are still not showing?

While photos have timestamps on them, DeerLab pulls data embedded within the photo, called the EXIF data. The timestamp has to be located within the EXIF for us to read it properly.

Why are my non-cellular photos still missing a timestamp?

There can be several reasons why a photo does not have an embedded timestamp. Here are a few of the common reasons.

  • An iPad was used to upload photos.
Apple has a known bug that strips EXIF data from photos uploaded from an iPhone or iPad. DeerLab and many other photo services are trying to get Apple to fix this issue in a future release.

  • Photos were previously edited.
If you have saved the photos from another program, EXIF data could have been updated from that program or stripped altogether.

  • Photos came from a website or email.
If you have pulled photos from a third-party website (like Facebook), more than likely, the EXIF data has been deleted.

  • Photos were viewed on a camera other than the original trial camera
Some digital cameras are known for stripping data from individual photos, even if viewing the SD card pulled from the trail camera. This typically is not the issue.

99% of cellular camera manufacturers strip the EXIF data within a cellular thumbnail. The only cellular camera we know that doesn't strip the timestamp is Spartan.
